With the extension of Tax Day, there is still time to use the United Way’s tax preparation program.
TUCSON (KVOA) – With the tax day extension, that means you have more time to take advantage of a free tax assistance program offered right here in southern Arizona.
The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program or VITA has been offered by United Way since 2016. This year everything is online and you have a little more time since Tax Day has been extended.
Now your taxes are due May 17, according to the IRS.
The Pima County Department of Community and Workforce Development partners with the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona to provide this service to you. That is if you earn $ 66,000 or less as a household. Just have your W2 handy. Centraide says they help thousands of Southern Arizonans with their taxes every year. But if you prefer to take advantage of the service and do it yourself, this is also an option.
“It’s just important that people understand, we’re here to help low and middle income people do their taxes correctly, accurately and completely,” said Ken Briggs of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. “So they can take advantage of these tax refunds and be assured that their return is accurate and complete.”
Briggs also told News 4 Tucson that more than $ 20 million was left on the table each year in Pima County because people did not take advantage of the earned income tax credit. “
