Republicans condemn firing of Space Force commander for ‘partisan political activity’
Republicans have condemned the firing of a commander of a US Space Force unit for making partisan political comments on a public podcast.
Space Force Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting sacked Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, commander of 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo., On Friday due to a lack of confidence in his abilities to leadership, according to Military.com.
“This decision was based on Lt. Col. Lohmeier’s public comments in a recent podcast,” a Space Force spokesperson said in a statement. “Lt. Gen. Whiting has launched a command-led investigation into whether these comments constituted prohibited partisan political activity.
This month Lohmeier published a book titled Irresistible Revolution: The Conquest Goal of Marxism and the Defeat of the American Army. The author appeared in an episode of Creative Destruction’s Information operation podcast to promote his book on the impact of the neo-Marxist agenda on the US military.
During the interview, Lohmeier reportedly discussed the “divisive” effects of diversity training.
“The diversity, inclusion and equity industry and the training we receive in the military … is rooted in critical race theory, which is rooted in Marxism,” a- he declared.
Lohmeier asserted that his book is not political. Rather, he told the host that his intention was to educate Americans about the increased politicization of the US military.
“My intention was never to engage in partisan politics. I wrote a book on a particular political ideology (Marxism) in the hope that our Defense Department will become politically non-partisan again in the future. , as he has done honorably throughout history, ”he added in an emailed statement to Military.com.
Republican figures took to social media on Sunday to criticize Lohmeier’s withdrawal from his command.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz called the report “disturbing.”
Florida Representative Byron Donalds tweeted: “Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier is a hero, not only for donning the uniform every day to defend our nation, but also for defending the freedoms of the left-wing mob trying to cancel it. CRT should not have a place in our classrooms, our armed forces, or the country as a whole. “
“It is scandalous that Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier has been dismissed from his Space Force post for expressing concerns that the US military is promoting Marxist ideologies.” Colorado Rep Ken Buck wrote on Twitter.
Willie H. Montague, 2020 GOP Florida Convention Candidate, posted: “Please contact me, I’d love to speak with you! Thank you for standing up for what’s right!”
“@matthewlohmeier Thank you for your daring and your loyalty. Promise prayers for yourself and your family, seek the face of the Lord and stay strong! Said Dan Beeman, priest of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk.
Jesse Kelly, 2012 Arizona congressman, tweeted: “I just want everyone to know this man is a hero. I don’t use the term lightly. He knew The System would destroy his career for dissent, but he spoke anyway. He will take men like this to make us win. Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier deserves to be honored. “
