Morning Open Thread – Gloomy Music
Midsummer in Mississippi is a time when indoors and activities stay cool. For many of us, it is a moment of reflection. I found myself engulfed in one of those moody days. I collected music that fit the occasion and here are some of those melodies.
Morning open topic is a copyrighted daily newspaper of a host of guest editors and writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful and respectful dialogue in an open forum. This is a post where you can come and share what’s on your mind and stick around for the conversation (and often the music offered). The columnist has free time (a schedule of their own) and can take a nap when they need to (or can walk away and show up later). Just to let you know, this is a feature, not a bug. |
Forty-two years ago, I was preparing for a hard day’s work outdoors (in the same conditions as today), except that I was pondering the fate of my unborn son. What midsummer misfortunes should he have survived?
Would he have war, deadly heat, or poverty (as I had endured) when he anticipated a new son someday in his future?
My grandson is graduating from high school next year. My son works away (as I always do) and I’m sure he has concerns about his child’s future life (and future children beyond).
Sad songs for sad moments of reflection.
Thoughtful songs with slow melodies aren’t always indicative of depression. Sometimes a sad song is simply appreciated for its quality and presentation.
