Co-op institutions urged to send jewelry loan details until January 31 – The New Indian Express

CHENNAI: The Registrar of Cooperative Societies has asked the heads of various cooperative institutions in the state to provide details of gold jewelry loans pending until January 31. Last week, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that gold jewelry loans from poor families, used by the mortgage up to six Jewel Rulers would be phased out. Minister Sellur K Raju had said the GO for this would be released after getting approval from the electoral commission since the model code of conduct is in effect.

Details such as beneficiary name, age, address, Aadhaar number, ration card number, amount remaining due up to eight sovereigns with principal amount, interest, penal interest, other charges and the total as at January 31 were sought. When contacted, official sources said this information was sought as part of a regular exercise and had nothing to do with the Chief Minister’s promise.

Institutions requested to provide details include Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Bank Limited, Tamil Nadu Cooperative State Agriculture and Rural Development Banks, Chennai Central Cooperative Bank Limited, Urban Cooperative Banks, Urban Cooperative Credit Societies, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies. , agricultural and rural development primary cooperative banks, employee cooperative societies and large-scale adivasi multipurpose primary cooperative societies.

Information sought
Details such as beneficiary name, Aadhaar number, ration card number and amount outstanding were researched
